Notes on Author William Shakespeare

Reading Section: Front loading Elizabethan Era
  • Review the notes from yesterday.
  • Watch the opening of Shakespeare in Love. Show the first 7 minutes and 7 seconds.
  • Explain and answer questions.

Reading Section: Dissecting the Chorus
  • Listen/Read through the Chorus.
  • Teachers/students read through the Chorus.
  • Explain the purpose of a chorus.
  • Explain the meaning of a chorus.
  • Watch and read the chorus again.

Reading Section: Act I, sc. i
  • Each scene will have a one page scene summary in your notebook:
  • ** Make a 3 column chart. Identify each character and his/her role and his/her attitude/behavior.

      • Montagues
      • Other
    • Below the characters, write a one paragraph summary of what happens in the scene.
  • Students listen along with the play.
  • Students then read parts--contemporary version or Elizabethan version.
  • Begin working on your scene summaries.
